Karl Blossfeldt, Archetypes of Art

2024

Catalog and branding for a gallery proposal of Blossfeldt photography at Glenstone Museum.

Karl Blossfeldt was a german sculptor and photographer, who published his book of magnified photographs of forms in nature, titled Unformen Der Kunst, which translates to Archetypes of Art.

This project is a proposal for an exhibition of his work. It includes social graphics, icons, environmental graphics, merch, and a catalog to be viewed alongside his work.

Branding

01: CATALOG
The catalog pairs a selected paragraph from Unformen Der Kunst with images of Blossfeldt’s florals. Each page uses oversized typography to give the writing prominence while visitors observe the artwork. The running text from page to page gives each of Blossfeldt’s words a moment, using the book as an object to inject pauses, contemplation, and interaction.

02: BRAND IDENTITY
The branding of this event carries the visual language from the catalog into numerous different applications. I wanted to keep this simple, eye catching, and bold, staying true to Blossfeldt’s work and the identity of Glenstone museum, where this gallery would be held.
